WSC Adds Underwriting Depth

Scott Donald, President and CEO of Western Surety Company, is pleased to announce the hiring of three new employees. “Each of our three offices needed a new ‘young professional’ to enable our company as a whole to continue to provide the exceptional service our broker partners expect and deserve. Western Surety is fortunate to have such well qualified people to join our underwriting team. I am excited by their potential and their contributions to the on-going success of the company.”

On June 19th, Vania Azevedo joined our Toronto office:

Vania graduated from the University of Windsor in 2010 with a B.Comm (Hons) and completed the Investment Funds in Canada Certificate in 2013. Prior to joining Western Surety, she spent several years with a major Canadian bank and she is also fluent in Spanish, French and Portuguese.

Vania’s personal interests include involvement in soccer and baseball and she enjoys traveling the globe.

Followed by Michael Howlett in Regina on August 1st:

Michael graduated from the University of Regina’s Paul J. Hill School of Business in 2008 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Michael received his Certified Management Accountant (CPA, CMA) designation in 2013 and also has completed the Investment Funds in Canada, Canadian Securities, and Professional Financial Planning courses through the Canadian Securities Institute. He also has prior experience in the banking industry and with another division within the Hill Group of Companies.

Michael enjoys spending his personal time with wife Val, their two young children as well as reading and renovating the family home.

And closing with Kevin Cahill in Halifax on August 8th:

Kevin graduated from Saint Mary’s University in 2012 with a B.Comm degree. He also holds the CIP and CAIB designations. Kevin’s insurance background includes a five year tenure with a Halifax based brokerage where he was a Personal Lines Manager.

In his leisure time, Kevin is involved in lacrosse as a player and as a coach of a local team and can also find time for the occasional golf game.

Donald adds that “all three have or will soon be enrolled in the Associateship in Canadian Surety Bonding through the Surety Association of Canada. The education augmented by relevant work experience will soon pay dividends for WSC as we approach the end of the year with an eye on 2018.”
