110th Anniversary Charity Donations

Founded in 1909, this year marks Western Surety Company’s 110th year in business. As part of our commitment to giving back to the community, we are making quarterly donations of $1,909.00 and a year ending $2,019 donation to charities across the country whose programs support and enrich the lives of children.

Scott Donald, WSC’s President and CEO, is excited to announce that the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre is the second recipient of our anniversary donations. “Our Atlantic Canadian team has chosen the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre and they are certainly a worthy recipient,” says Donald.

Based in Halifax, NS, the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre opened its doors on September 17th, 1973. They are a non-profit, board governed organization whose mission is to provide structured, social based programming for urban Aboriginal people. “We appreciate that many of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre’s programs are specifically geared to children,” Donald adds. These include the Child Development Center which provides quality, culturally appropriate programs and resources for First Nation families who reside off-reserve. Other programs such as Seniors Kids N Culture, Mi’kmaq Supper and the Annual Family Powwow Trip increase cultural components in the under-serviced 8-13 year-old population.

“Through our special donation, we at WSC are happy to acknowledge and support the great works of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre,” says Donald.
