Getting to Know…Cory Manchur, Regional Manager, Toronto Office

For Cory Manchur, Western Surety’s Regional Manager serving the Ontario market, family comes first. Working for a company that puts family values at the top of the list for Cory is key and at Western Surety, he’s impressed by the company’s commitment to family. “I love working for a company that has been owned and operated by the same family for 110 years. The company’s treatment of their employees has always been of the highest standard and I respect that,” says Cory.

Originally from Winnipeg, Cory started his career with Western Surety working in the head office in Regina. When the opportunity came up in the Toronto office, Cory jumped at the chance to bring his skills to the Ontario market, while at the same time getting to enjoy all that the city has to offer. “One of the biggest bonuses of being in Toronto is the amount of professional sporting events that are available. Since moving here I’ve been able to attend many Leafs, Blue Jays, Raptors, and TFC games.”

As an underwriter, Cory believes the most interesting part of the career is building relationships, “I consider myself a ‘people person’ and during my ten years as an underwriter, I have had the pleasure of meeting so many different people. Building these relationships with our brokers and clients is the most enjoyable and rewarding part of the business.”

Building those relationships goes hand in hand with providing exemplary service to meet the needs of the contractor. “It’s important to think outside of the box,” says Cory. “No two situations are ever the same and this position allows you to be creative to find a solution for your contractor. You also need to be able to react quickly. We are often faced with a time sensitive request and it’s important to differentiate between the information you need to have and the information you’d like to have.”

Aside from work, Cory stays busy by golfing whenever he possibly can. He and his wife also like to travel. This year they traveled to London, Paris, and Amsterdam. “We love discovering new areas and indulging in new experiences.” The golfing and travel time will be greatly diminished moving forward, as child #1 is expected at the end of the year!
