Getting to Know….Greg Salmon, Senior Regional Manager
Regina Head Office

The construction industry is always changing and evolving. Every year new trends emerge that challenge the status quo. As sureties play an important role in helping construction companies mitigate the risks they face, the surety’s underwriting must also be nimble and adaptive. This has not been a problem for Western Surety’s Greg Salmon. In fact, it has actually been a key factor to his success. “I enjoy the Surety industry because it constantly forces you to think outside the box. Projects are becoming larger and more complex and I enjoy the challenge they present from an underwriting perspective. I also really enjoy gaining an understanding of our client’s business models and learning what makes each successful,” notes Greg. His portfolio includes a wide variety of contractors that range from small maintenance companies up to large general contractors and everything in-between.

Working out of Western Surety’s Regina head office, Greg is the Senior Regional Manager for the Provinces of British Columbia and Alberta. Over his 10-year tenure with the company, Greg’s hard work and dedication have been recognized with promotions and increased responsibilities. Through it all, his job continues to be very rewarding. “Definitely the people you get to meet and deal with on a daily basis make it all worthwhile. Surety is unique in that you get to develop long term relationships with brokers, contractors, along with various other people in the business.”

Greg says he would highly recommend a career in surety. “If you’re looking for a challenging and rewarding career, surety is a great industry to achieve that. You get a chance to see how some incredible projects are built and get to know the people that make it happen.”

Greg has a busy schedule outside of work. “Our two kids, ages 10 and 8, keep my wife and me busy with coaching and shuttling them to various sports and activities. We enjoy golfing together in the summer and I play hockey in the winter.” Originally from Ontario, Greg’s summer plans always include taking the family back to Muskoka. “I grew up in the area and we look forward to spending time with family and friends whom we don’t get to see very often.”
