WSC Establishes a "Work From Home" Protocol

As the COVID-19 outbreak intensifies across Canada, WSC believes it is important to ensure the health and well-being of our employees, brokers, other stakeholders and the community at large. As such, last week, we initiated a “work from home” policy that will be in place indefinitely.

Thanks to the dedication of our staff, the transition to working from home has been seamless and you have likely not even noticed the difference. All employees are readily accessible through their individual business and cell phone lines as well as e-mail and Contract e-Services to quickly respond to your bond requests, questions and any concerns you may have. We are committed to providing you with the highest service levels you expect from WSC.

Potential Impacts of COVID-19 on Construction Contracts

The potential impacts of the Coronavirus could be wide reaching. Consequences that could arise on a job site include quarantines or government mandated labor force reduction, supply chain shortages and contractor inability to fulfill contractual obligations, among other issues.

In light of this uncertainty, WSC recommends that our contractor clients assess and evaluate their respective risks on all on-going and future projects and to obtain special legal advice to mitigate performance completion issues should they arise.

To bring awareness to this issue, for all Bid Bond approvals, WSC will now be deploying the following clause:

“If successful, we recommend the contractor takes measures to manage the contract terms with the Obligee regarding any project delays/impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

WSC Salutes the National and Provincial Construction Associations

WSC would like to acknowledge the efforts of the Canadian Construction Association and the provincial construction associations for continuing to lobby the federal and provincial governments to ensure that construction and related manufacturing activities remain operational during this challenging time.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has quickly upended our daily lives and made us all readjust to a new reality. This can be a powerful time to extend to our colleagues, families, friends and communities our compassion, patience and kindness. We will all face this challenge together and come out of it for the better.
