CBSA/CARM Update –
Western Surety is Ready to Go!
As most are aware, the Canada Border Services Agency (“CBSA”) has recently announced its updated external launch date for the CBSA Assessment and Revenue Management (“CARM”) digital initiative, as October 21, 2024.
Our valued brokers need to know that Western Surety (“WSC”) is fully prepared to assist in providing an easy and efficient online solution for the upcoming introduction of the revised CARM program.
What To Know:
- Ensure your clients are set up with a CARM account - https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/services/carm-gcra/menu-eng.html
- WSC E-Services has been updated to integrate with the CARM Application Program Interface (“API”).
- No new steps for brokers issuing bonds in E-services.
- A bond issued in E-Services will be automatically sent to the CARM API.
- CARM API will confirm if the bond is accepted or rejected via email to the broker.
- Bonds required over our portal’s short form limits of $50k single / $100k aggregate, will require additional review and once approved will be internally submitted using the API although the manual upload method can also be utilized.
What To Do:
- Log in to WSC E-services - https://eservices.westernsurety.ca/eservices/login/login
- Apply for the required D120 Customs Bond as normal, which will be automatically sent to the CARM API.
- Bonds issued via the manual upload method will require respective Principal(s) to update their financial security tab in their CARM account and WSC will receive an email request from CBSA to verify the bond before it becomes effective.
