CBSA/CARM Now Live! -
Western Surety is Ready to Help!
As most are aware, on October 21st the Canada Border Services Agency ("CBSA") launched the CBSA Assessment and
Revenue Management ("CARM") program as the official system to assess and collect duties and taxes for commercial
goods imported to Canada.
As a reminder to our valued brokers, Western Surety ("WSC") provides an easy and efficient online solution for the CARM program.
What to Know:
- Ensure your clients are set up with a CARM account - https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/services/carm-gcra/menu-eng.html
- WSC E-Services has been updated to integrate with the CARM Application Program Interface ("API").
- No new steps for brokers issuing bonds in E-services.
- A bond issued in E-Services will be automatically sent to the CARM API.
- CARM API will confirm if the bond is accepted and if rejected the broker will be notified via email of the issue. Once corrected the bond will be resent to the CARM API.
- Bonds in excess of E-Services short form limits of $50k single / $100k aggregate require additional review, and once approved will be submitted by WSC using the API although the manual upload method can also be utilized.
What To Do:
- Log in to WSC E-services - https://eservices.westernsurety.ca/eservices/login/login
- Apply for the required Customs Bond operation as normal, which will be automatically sent to the CARM API.
- Bonds issued via the manual upload method will require respective Principal(s) to update their financial security tab in their CARM account and WSC will receive an email request from CBSA to verify the bond before it becomes effective.
