E-Zine Readers were introduced to Devin Spence within our June 19, 2024 E-Zine. Devin continues to excel as a Surety Underwriter since joining our Dartmouth, NS office on July 8, 2024. Devin's day to day includes servicing all areas of Atlantic Canada and brokers can look forward to continued discussions and future correspondence from him.
Outside of work, Devin is an avid outdoors enthusiast - whether it's hiking or just spending time outside, he is happiest when in nature. He also enjoys playing golf whenever given the opportunity, as it's a great way to unwind and challenge himself. Family time is very important to Devin, he always tries to make the best of it, through activities like weekend barbecues or spontaneous road trips.
What Devin likes best about working in surety so far, "is the opportunity to meet our client and broker partners. I especially value face-to-face interactions, as they allow me to gain a deeper understanding of each account and build stronger working relationships."

With the collapse of the financial structure in Western Canada that accompanied the Great Depression of the 1930s, there was very little surety business until World War Two commenced. During this time, the Saskatchewan Guarantee & Fidelity Company Limited, the predecessor of Western Surety Company, prospered fairly well, thanks to a large book of Administration Bonds which constituted the majority of their business. This class of Bonds are required by the courts to enable executors to administer estates and Western Surety Company continues to write this class of business today.
