Murray Wallace Leaves Western Surety Board

Western Surety Chairman Paul Hill presents an appreciation gift to Murray Wallace. Background: David Dykes, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and Scott Donald, President and Chief Operating Officer.

Murray Wallace, a Western Surety board member since 1998, has resigned his position to pursue other interests.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Murray is a former provincial Deputy Minister and President of SGI. He has held senior executive postions with several public and private sector firms. Murray currently serves as a director for a number of leading Canadian investment, insurance and manufacturing enterprises.

Murray has made many valuable contributions during his 12 years on the board. His experience and expertise will be missed by everyone at Western Surety and the Hill Group of Companies.

Alberta engineering student modest about winning essay

Fraser Redford, who received one of Western Surety's 100th Anniversary Scholarships, has completed his first year in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering program at Edmonton's Grant MacEwan University with a lot of hard work ... and a big surprise. Fraser's essay comparing Ford and Toyota was named the best first year English essay at Grant MacEwan in the APEGGA (Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta) English essay competition.

Fraser's mother Cheryl Redford, a surety broker with Aon Reed Stenhouse in Edmonton, says Fraser is predictably modest about his achievement. "He feels we are making much too big a deal about it, but that's what parents are for," she says.
