Effective January 1, 2011 Scott Donald will add Chief Executive Officer to his current title of President.

David Dykes, the current Chief Executive Officer will continue his duties as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and additionally play an integral role as Western Surety further enhances its board governance in the area of Enterprise Risk Management. More details will follow in 2011.

"Providing stability to our brokers and stakeholders requires sound risk management," says Scott. "David's long and senior experience provides the industry knowledge that makes this possible."

David has more than 35 years' surety experience including 13 with Western Surety. He has served in a wide variety of capacities within the firm and the surety industry.

2010 Review: Challenge and Growth

The 2010 year has balanced industry challenges with business growth at Western Surety.

The global economy was still taking its toll on the Alberta economy in 2010, and the resulting claims in the surety industry were unexpectedly high.

"We're a conservative company, when it comes to preparing for risk," says Scott Donald.

"So we're in a good position to manage a year of above average claim numbers. We don't like to see it, but we're well prepared and our customers know they can count on us.

"We're also keenly aware that a positive and prompt resolution for an owner can be a tremendous marketing tool for the product and for Western Surety."

At the same time Western Surety has been continually growing its total business.

"2010 was a period of expanding our ability to serve brokers," says Donald.

"We added a new senior staff member in the Atlantic office in the summer and completed the Toronto staffing earlier in the year.

"We were more than pleased with the results of the first full year of the new Toronto office and look forward to another productive year in the Atlantic office; which will also celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2011."
