Brent Oshanek, Senior Regional Manager, will have spent half his life with Western Surety as he reaches his 25th anniversary in a few months.

That track record demonstrates the firm’s continuity and consistency in a business world that has seen constant change over the last two and a half decades.

One of the biggest changes is speed of service.

“The big emphasis has been on turnaround time,” he says. “It’s our company’s commitment to out-service everyone else. Advances in technology have raised client expectations."

“And contractors have become more specialized. Today owners are looking for solutions and different procurement methods, not just at the contract price.”

Another big change is growth, says Brent.

“We’ve seen a fourfold growth in Western Surety's business as well as a fantastic jump in the size and the complexity of projects we’re able to handle. Contracts for $1 million were considered large in 1988, but now we regularly see contracts of $50 million.

“When your clients are in a growth mode, you have to be there for them.”

“In the midst of change, I think our commitment to service has been the constant and a key to that growth.”

Brent holds a Certified Management Accountant designation and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

Away from the rigors of work, he strives for a quality work-life balance by spending time with his wife Cissy, and two daughters, Brieanne 11 and Chailyn 8. Brent enjoys their acreage overlooking the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley along with camping, boating and helping his daughters with their sports and activities.
