It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Arden Giesbrecht on August 25th after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Until he went on health leave this summer, Arden had been Controller and Corporate Secretary at Western Surety Company since 2010, which followed 20 years in corporate accounting for the Hill Companies. His duties are currently being temporarily managed by Dale Binner, who was Arden's predecessor in the Controller/Corporate Secretary position. Dale can be contacted at

"Arden was a respected veteran of the Hill Companies family," said WSC President and CEO Scott Donald.

"He was one of our longest-serving staff members — one of a select few who worked with WSC and Corporate.

"Arden's efforts for WSC made the transition from Dale seamless, and he quickly gained the trust and respect of our employees as well as our Board of Directors, reinsurance partners, federal regulators, investment advisors and external auditors.

"He was a friend to all of us and to so many of our associates, and also a much-appreciated mentor to younger staff.

"Arden will be sorely missed. Our hearts go out to his wife Lorrie, and children Matthew and Kaylee, at this time of great loss."

Arden received his CMA designation in 1992. He also belonged to the Association for Financial Professionals, the Canadian Insurance Accountants Association and the Rotary Club of Regina.

If so desired, donations may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society for Melanoma Research in memory of Arden.
