Atlantic Canada Branch Office Celebrates 15th Year Anniversary

(L to R – Maggie Weir, Wes Benson, Tom Pelham, Stephen Myrer)

The Atlantic Canada branch office of Western Surety Company celebrates its 15 year anniversary in June, 2016. Located in Halifax, NS, the office was the first branch for WSC. Stephen Myrer (Branch Manager) and Tom Pelham (Senior Surety Underwriter) have been with WSC since Day 1. Maggie Weir (Administrative Assistant) joined in 2007 and staffing was augmented by the hiring of Wes Benson (Regional Manager-Newfoundland and Labrador) in 2010.

Stephen Myrer marvels that 15 years seems to have passed so quickly, but within that period of time, the branch office has seen many changes ranging from more complex projects and larger contract values, the significant growth of our clients’ businesses, e-bonding and the automation of our bond issuance systems, and the challenges presented by the economy.

According to Scott Donald, WSC’s President and CEO, what hasn’t changed is the high level of experience the underwriting staff in Halifax has and their continued strong commitment to service excellence. He says, “In addition to their keen understanding of the Atlantic Canada marketplace, our three underwriters collectively have almost 70 years of surety expertise. They apply this wealth of knowledge daily. And from the feedback I’ve personally received, their responsiveness to our brokers and contractor clients in Atlantic Canada is top notch.”

Stephen and his team express their thanks to their very supportive brokers and contractors. “We are fortunate to have developed business relationships on Day 1 that are still going strong after 15 years of operations,” says Stephen. “Over the next several months, we will be “out and about” in Atlantic Canada and we look forward to meeting with our brokers and contractors,” he adds.

We congratulate the Atlantic Canada branch office on their 15 years of operation and look forward to the next 15 years.
